What kind of backend functionality does this theme have?
Can you completely customize the front page (remove sections, widgetized footer, search bar etc)?
Does the menu system support redirects or do you have to link to the site internally?
Is there independent control of sidebar layout (ie: different sidebars for different categories, etc)?
Posted June 27, 2010 - 10:27 pm
beantheme
hasteve,
Yes you can customize the front page using the backend. Plus there's 2 different layout options for the slider. You can choose to have 1,2 or 3 feature boxes, custom the images (so instead of the numbers you can add icons if you'd like.) The footer and sidebars are widgetized.
Also, the menu system runs off the brand new WP 3.0 menu. So to answer your question yes, you can do redirects, re-order the nav, add pages, add categories, etc. Pretty much anything you want.
Yes, under the widgets area you have independent control of the sidebar area and the footer area but there's only one sidebar to control.
Just a side note, this theme also uses the new custom post types. So managing the slider and the portfolio areas is very easy!
Hope that helps!

I really like this theme, but am having trouble . . . I tried to contact Bean Themes via Twitter as directed on the profile page, but to no avail. I really need to get my website built quickly, and would appreciate any help (even if I have to pay for it), as soon as possible.

@design17 - No worries, I know what the issue is;)
When you initially download the theme, you need to unzip the file instead of uploading that entire folder.
Unzip or extract that download file and just upload the theme file itself using the Wordpress uploader or via FTP.
Does the make sense? Hopefully that helps!

Gorgeous theme, perfect for my needs!
Couple Issues as of July 8, 2010:
1. The portfolio page is not working properly -- the picture is coming up blank even though it's clearly uploaded correctly. I'm not well-versed enough in html to find and fix the issue myself.
2. Allowing the theme to generate the header navigation when creating parent and subordinate pages results in a drop-down menu where the arrow overlaps the text. I corrected this problem by manually creating the menu in the site header. The menu works and looks great when taking this route.
Thanks Bean Themes for a wonderful theme! I love it!

Hello,
This is to request your help with the WP Folio Studio that I purchased. I'm having difficulty uploading it to my Wordpress site.
Can you please help?
I downloaded the FolioStudio file and it's now in my "downloads" file on my MacBook.
But when I try to upload it into Wordpress (from my WP Dashboard, in "Appearance" and then in "themes"), I'm not sure which file to choose because there appear to be many options. If I choose the basic FolioStudio file folder (which I think is correct), my Macbook doesn't allow me to "choose" it. The "choose" clicker doesn't get highlighted. So I'm not able to "choose" it to upload it.
What am I doing wrong?
My Wordpress account is set up with my DreamHost server. Do I need to involve DreamHost in this process?

Hello Beantheme,
I have two questions:
(1) Where in the WP dashboard do I get to choose among the two home-page themes?
A friend of mine (who is not currently available) set me up on a blog-type home-page theme and I'd like to set up a theme that looks more like your demo (non-blog) version. Overall, I'm trying to set my home page up where I can have those three images moving horizontally across the top of the home page, but I cannot seem to set that option up.
(2) Regarding your most recent message above, of I re-download the zip to be able to use the "featured product" image, will I need to start over in setting up my website? I've been working with the previously downloaded version for several hours and I'd hate to start over again, if possible.

Hi John,
Here's the answers to your questions:
1. To setup the homepage, you use the standard reading settings with Wordpress. You go to "Settings>Reading" and set your pages there. If you read through the documentation file, you'll see how to set that up. You need to create 2 new pages, one Home and one Blog.
If you need help setting those up, let me know and I'd be glad to login your WP site and do it for you.
2. You should be ok to just re-install the theme and all the settings should be there.

HI,
I don't appear to have received a documentation file with the download? There is a read me file and in that it states to:
#
Setup Home Page
Go To: Settings » Reading and set the following:
* "Front page displays": "A static page (select below)"
* "Front page": "Home"
* "Posts page": "Blog"
Unfortunately am unable to do this as under my Readings panel (using WordPress 3.0) I only have the following options:
Blog pages show at most posts
Syndication feeds show the most recent items
For each article in a feed, show
For each article in a feed, show
Full text
Summary
Encoding for pages and feeds
Any ideas on how I can set up the site to show the front page and how I can get hold of the documentation for this theme would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Michelle

The theme is adding slashes to the header script so if I go to the Theme Options >> General, I have to add the correct code again every time. It's also adding slashes in the text areas for the home page whenever is use an apostrophe.

Hi I'm very new to both Mojo and WP (I'm a writer who lacks tech savvy skills, but trying to change that!)
I bought your beautiful FolioStudio theme, saved the zip file to my computer.
However, I'm having issues uploading this theme to my Wordpress. I downloaded Wordpress.org 3.0.1, via HostMonster, where my domain was bought.
So, I sign onto my website, which I've now made into Wordpress.
However, in the Dashboard panel, when I select "Install Theme", then "Upload Theme" (it asks for the zip format), when I select the zip format of FolioStudio, Wordpress keeps telling me "Are you sure you want to do this?" and then asks if I would like to try to upload it again. I've tried many times and it keeps doing this, instead of simply uploading the theme....ughhh!
Why is it saying this? How can I get Wordpress to properly install FolioStudio???? I'm really looking forward to using it.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

New question!
I successfully uploaded and activate the theme on my Wordpress. However, now I am stuck on #3 (Import Sample Data Provided By Us) of the Installation process.
Your readme file asks that I find all instances of {% UPLOADS_DIR %} and replace it with http://<YOUR WEBSITE HOST>/wp-content/uploads
The problem: I am in XML editor and it cannot find ANY instance of the string {% UPLOADS_DIR %} --- I have even copied and pasted it from your readme file to ensure I'm typing it verbatim.
Can you please help?! Thank you!!!

@inneradventures I have fixed the RSS issue you were having. I won't make you download the whole theme again but you are going to have to replace the widget folder.
Go to this link and download the zip folder: http://cl.ly/2538966f1e53f3ba6f2e
First, unzip the file so that it is only called "theme-widgets.php".
Once you have done this go into your FTP and go to the FolioStudio theme. Once there, click on the "options" folder. Inside of the "options" folder you should see the file "theme-widgets.php". This is the file you are going to want to replace.
Now that you have done this, log into the Wordpress admin of your site and go to the widgets. You will now notice that you can insert your RSS Feed address of your choice.
Sorry about the problem. That should fix it.

1. How do I remove the "21354 Subscribers" and RSS icon from the top of the blog page (see here: http://justinewilson.com/InnerAdventures/blog-3/# )
2. When a visitor visits the site and clicks on a category it takes them to an archive of the categories posts - I need it to display the posts for the category in blog format (like the standard blog page but for the category).

@InnerAdventures I tried looking at the URL you provided but it wasn't working. So my best advice for you is to target the ID and Class in the style.css file. Search for "#top-text-section .subscribers". Within that copy and paste the following: "display: none;". This will make it so that section of code will not display which should fix your problem.
As far as your second question is concerned, the theme is not built to function like that. I am sorry. Maybe I will consider that in a future update.

@beanthemes. Thank You...code fix worked and by making some changes to the stylesheet and archives.php I was able to get the custom post image thumbs for each article to display instead of the default generic one ...so that produces part of the effect that I wanted and looks better :)

I didn't change anything with comment-num - it was like that when I downloaded the theme. Just checked the original CSS and that's what it says:
".comment-num { display: block; position: absolute; width: 45px !important; height: 45px !important; top: -5px; right: -5px; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 0 0; padding: 0 !important; }

@JillChongva Ok, I tried looking at your problem the best I could without having access to your files. As a quick fix I will suggest a couple options that you can take a stab at.
First, I would try renaming the class in the HTML where the correct post number is located. Then go copy and past the class "comment-num" information into the new class. Then go to .comment-num and say display: none;
The problem is occurring from the changes you made to the header. Because of this I would assume that the fix mentioned earlier might not fix it but it's worth a try.
If this doesn't work, the best I can say to you is to give me FTP access and maybe I will be able to figure it out.

@mteixeira - Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you like the theme!
The portfolio is actually a custom post type made specifically for this theme. All you'd need to do is create a new item and assign it to a parent item. Just like standard pages or posts.

I purchased a bundlepack that included Foliostudio from Bundlehunt. There seems to be something wrong with the theme I purchased in this bundle. When I install, either by uploading the zip file in the dashboard or directly adding it to the theme folder my entire dashboard breaks. I've isolated the file functions.php to be to blame but I'm still having trouble getting this installation to work at all.
